ABOUT

Farming is one of the most important skills in Pokémon Unite, but it’s often overlooked. This guide breaks down everything you need to know about gaining experience efficiently, whether you're jungling, laning, or playing catch-up. By understanding timers, farm value, and optimal routes, you’ll be able to hit key power spikes, secure objectives, and lead your team to victory through smart resource control.

Whether you're a solo queue grinder or part of a coordinated team, mastering farming gives you a consistent edge. This guide is designed to help you make better decisions with every rotation, when to take jungle, when to contest enemy wilds, and when to skip fights to scale. Small EXP leads can snowball into major advantages, and knowing how to create those leads is what separates good players from great ones.

Farming isn’t just about collecting EXP, it’s the foundation of tempo, pressure, and control in Pokémon Unite. Here’s why mastering farm is so important:

1. Increases Your Level Advantage
Level differences directly impact the outcome of fights. Even a single level can mean stronger stats or access to a stronger move. A well-farmed player can consistently win 1v1s, pressure enemies off objectives, or lead their team in fights. Falling behind in farm usually means you’ll lose engagements unless your team outplays or capitalizes on mistakes.

2. Unlocks Powerful Moves Faster
Most Pokémon have major power spikes at levels 5, 7, or 9 — when they evolve, learn key abilities, or gain their Unite Move. Reaching those breakpoints before your opponents gives you a massive advantage, especially during early fights around Altaria or Regi spawns. A well-timed evolution or Unite Move can turn a skirmish into a clean win.

3. Helps You Evolve Sooner
Some Pokémon don’t hit their full potential until they evolve. Characters like Scyther, Aegislash, and Delphox can be significantly weaker in their base forms. Efficient farming helps you evolve earlier, letting you pressure your lane or secure jungle objectives faster than opponents stuck in early forms.

4. Prepares You for Objective Fights
Major objectives like Regieleki or Rayquaza are team-based win conditions, and showing up underleveled often means you’ll either get wiped or can’t contest. Strong early and mid-game farming ensures your team hits key levels in time to participate in these moments with a real chance at winning them.

5. Denying Enemy Farm Slows Them Down
Farming isn’t just about what you gain, it’s about what your opponents lose. Stealing wild Pokémon or invading jungle reduces enemy EXP, forcing them to play catch-up. A small lead can quickly become a massive gap if you consistently secure contested farm and zone them off theirs.

6. It Gives You Unite Move Charge
Defeating wild Pokémon doesn’t just give you EXP, it also charges your Unite Move. This can make the difference between having your Unite ready for a crucial teamfight or being stuck on cooldown. Farming after using your Unite is one of the fastest ways to recharge it in time for the next major fight, especially when objectives are back-to-back.

7. Carries Need to Reach Level 13 by Rayquaza
Your top three damage dealers, usually the jungle and both laning attackers — should consistently aim for level 13 by the time Rayquaza spawns. Level 13 often upgrades a key move, increasing damage, utility, or cooldown efficiency. Falling short of this mark can leave your team underpowered in the most important fight of the game.

core farming concepts

Core Farming Concepts

• Last-hitting: Doing the final blow to a wild pokemon

 • Shared EXP exists: stay near allies to split it

 • Power spikes: know when your Pokémon become strong (e.g. level 5 for Absol's Night Slash)

 • Know what Pokémon are more valuable: There are multiple factors to consider when prioritizing farm, such as the experience and buffs wild Pokémon provide, as well as the strategic importance of taking neutral farm to limit the enemy’s resources.

 • Understand spawn timers: Knowing when wild Pokémon respawn helps you plan efficient routes and contest objectives at the right times

 • Unite Move (Ultimate) farming: Farming wild Pokémon charges your Unite Move so you can have it ready for important fights. Having your ultimate available at key moments can turn the tide of battles and secure objectives.

Priority Table

Understanding which wild Pokémon to prioritize is key to efficient farming and winning key moments in the game. Some spawns offer significantly more experience, buffs, or strategic value than others, especially when contested. The table below breaks down common wild Pokémon spawns based on their impact, helping you and your team make better decisions about where to invest your time and presence on the map.

Not all farm is equal in value. Neutral farm, wild Pokémon that spawn in the center of the map, is usually higher priority than your side farm because both teams can contest it, making it more impactful if secured. Even more valuable is enemy side farm, which denies your opponents resources while boosting your own, but it comes with higher risk and often requires coordination or map pressure to take safely. Prioritizing farm based on map control, timing, and team position is crucial for gaining and maintaining an advantage.

Your Side Farm, Neutral Farm And Enemy Side Farm

Your Side Farm

Your side farm on Theia Sky Ruins refers to the wild Pokémon that spawn on your team's half of the map, including Baltoy near your goal zones and your side of the jungle (Red and Blue Buffs). These spawns are typically safer to secure and provide steady experience early on. However, they are less impactful than neutral farm in the center of the map, which both teams can contest, or enemy-side farm, which denies resources to your opponents.

farm sides

Neutral Farm

Neutral farm refers to wild Pokémon that spawn in areas neither team controls, typically in the center of the map or shared lanes. On Theia Sky Ruins, this includes the mid-lane Baltoy, the Altaria flocks , Regidrago and sometimes even central jungle if it's being contested. Neutral farm is higher priority than your side farm because both teams have access to it, and securing it gives your team an advantage while denying it from the enemy.

Enemy Side Farm

Enemy side farm refers to the wild Pokémon located on the opposing team’s half of the map, such as their Baltoy near goals, jungle buffs, or unguarded Altaria flocks if they lose control. This type of farm is the highest in value because it denies experience from the enemy while boosting your own team's level progression. However, it also carries the most risk, invading enemy territory often requires vision, map pressure, or coordinated rotations to avoid getting punished or giving up objectives.

Jungle Pathing Examples

This are standard yet effective jungle clears

Early Gank

This gank route is typically used with Eeveelutions or Pokémon that have a strong level 3 or 4 powerspike and want to punish overly aggressive opponents on your side of the map. It's usually done to secure farm, gain a level advantage, or force a KO or battle item for value. An additional benefit of this clear is that the laner in the lane you're not ganking can take a jungle buff for themselves.

farm

Standard Gank

This is considered the most basic jungle clear in the game, yet it's one of the most efficient. It’s a fast full clear designed to set up an early gank. It also helps with the second jungle rotation by delaying the spawn of one buff, and it’s one of the most reliable ways for certain junglers to hit level 9, guaranteed, so long as you complete three full rotations.

farm

Double Buff Full Gank

This gank path is ideal if you expect a prolonged skirmish during your first gank, as it ensures your two jungle buffs spawn first during the second jungle clear. This allows you to farm them before the 8-minute Altaria spawns.

farm

Extra Tip:

If you’re playing as a jungler, we strongly suggest always doing a triple clear of your jungle to reliably reach level 9 before 7:00, when the first two major objectives, Regieleki and a bottom Regi spawn. Hitting level 9 by then is crucial, as it typically gives you your Unite Move and makes you much more impactful in early teamfights.

Another way to hit level 9 quickly is by picking a strong early-game Pokémon to snowball through early pressure. This strategy involves playing aggressively, invading the enemy jungle, and pushing your advantage, but it carries more risk and requires smart decision-making and team awareness.

laning phase

Laning Phase Farming Tips

Ignore the twin Bunnelby in the Flux Zone:

At the 9:45 mark, a neutral farm spawns in both lanes, Baltoy in the top lane and Indeedee in the bottom lane. It’s important to contest this Pokémon, as securing it gives you a strong chance to reach level 5 before the first Altaria.

The SUPPORT and the TANK, must always use EXP Share:

Yes, even in Solo Queue, the held item EXP Share is considered the best item in the game. It provides your lane partner with a significant amount of experience while also ensuring that you don’t fall behind on your support power spikes. It’s important to understand that EXP Share grants your partner bonus experience when you last hit, and even when you're simply soaking experience, it still gives them more, making it the most efficient item for supports.

Know your laning phase timers:

Understanding the laning phase timers is key to maximizing your early game impact. Wild Pokémon spawns in the first few minutes are predictable and can give you a major level advantage if timed correctly. For example, the first wave of Baltoy / Indeedee appears at 9:45, and Altaria spawns at 8:00, offering valuable XP for early evolution or power spikes. Knowing these timers allows you to rotate efficiently, contest neutral farm, and avoid wasting time waiting for spawns. Consistent laning phase awareness helps you hit crucial levels like 5, 7, or 9 before big fights break out.

Securing farm:

Securing farm is about more than just being present at a spawn, it's about timing and coordination. Knowing your matchups or how much secure power your Pokémon has (burst damage or last-hit potential) helps you win contested wild Pokémon. Always keep track of who on the enemy team can out-secure you and play around that. One of the best ways to improve your odds is to call for your teammates to burst together, combining abilities to maximize damage in the final moment. This teamwork can be the difference between getting a key objective or losing it, and possibly the game.

Always ask for help:

If you're being invaded, don’t try to handle it alone, ask for help immediately. Whether you’re the jungler or a laner, early invades can quickly snowball into lost farm and lost objectives. Communicating with your team to collapse on the invader can punish their aggression and turn the tables. Even just forcing them to retreat protects your resources and keeps your pathing on track. Ignoring an invade or staying silent can lead to an XP deficit that’s hard to recover from, especially in the early game.

Minute 8:00 Regidrago:

Regidrago now spawns at the 8:00 minute mark in Theia Sky Ruins. It always appears in the central pit and is one of the most impactful mid-game objectives. Securing Regidrago provides a powerful pushing buff that strengthens your team’s lanes, making it easier to take goals and snowball the match. Because it spawns early, teams should plan their lane assignments and rotations around the 8:00 timer, especially ensuring that top lane doesn’t abandon farm too early and that your team is grouped in time to contest.

mid game

Mid Game Farming (7:00 - 2:00)

Mid game is when the macro and tempo of the match become much more intense. All Pokémon are stronger at this stage, and mistakes are punished more severely. The main goal for your three carry Pokémon during mid game should be to reach level 13 before Rayquaza spawns.

Attackers have priority on the safe farm:

Attackers have priority on the safe farm because most of them lack mobility and are naturally squishy, making them easy targets when taking unnecessary risks. By keeping them focused on the farm within your side of the map, they can safely gain the XP they need to evolve, unlock key moves, and prepare for upcoming fights without overexposing themselves to enemy pressure. This allows them to hit their power spikes while minimizing the chance of being caught out early.

safe farm

Farming the Off-Lane:

All-Rounders and Speedsters have priority on the off-lane farm because their bulk, mobility, and strong dueling potential allow them to safely take more risks. These roles are also excellent at invading the enemy side jungle or farm on their own, but their chances of success increase significantly when assisted by a Support. This combination can deny crucial XP from the enemy team while boosting your own tempo, often creating a snowball effect in your favor.

Farm priority:

An easy way to adjust your farm pathing is by farming based on priority. If you’re ahead, you should push to take farm from the enemy side to deny their XP and extend your lead. If you want to avoid high risk but can still hold your ground in fights, focus on neutral farm to maintain your advantage. If you’re behind, play it safe and secure your safe farm so you can catch up in levels. This approach helps you reach your Unite Move sooner, giving you a stronger chance to win the next skirmish or teamfight and swing the momentum back in your favor.

Ask for farm:

Make sure to ask for farm if you need it to hit an important level breakpoint or charge your Unite Move. Clear communication with your team helps avoid farm disputes and ensures the XP goes to the player who can make the biggest impact in the upcoming fight.

Split up and farm:

Don’t sabotage your teammates by soaking experience they need, unless you genuinely require it for a power spike or Unite Move. Instead, split up and farm, there are three lanes full of wild Pokémon, so spreading out ensures the whole team gains levels efficiently.

Leash the farm for your carries:

When playing a role that isn’t farm-priority, help your carries secure wild Pokémon by damaging them to low HP and letting your carry land the last hit. This ensures they get the experience they need to reach important level spikes faster.

Help your supports:

Help your supports by allowing them to soak experience safely or by giving them nearby Baltoys to farm. Supports often play a vital role in team fights but can struggle to secure farm on their own due to positioning or lack of burst damage. Sharing farm with them ensures they stay relevant, can unlock key abilities, and contribute effectively in fights.

Be efficient when farming:

Be efficient when farming by using your abilities and cooldowns wisely. Instead of single-targeting wild Pokémon one by one, aim to hit multiple targets with area-of-effect moves or quick combos. This speeds up your clear time, helps you maintain map pressure, and gets you experience faster to hit crucial power spikes.

Yellow dots:

Always keep track of the mini-map and communicate with your team to farm the yellow dots / wild Pokémon spawns. Staying aware of these spawns helps your team prioritize farm, contest objectives, and maintain map control.

Ask for a jungle buff:

If you benefit from the Red Buff or Blue Buff, make sure to call for it so you can farm it efficiently and gain the advantages during teamfights. These buffs provide attack power, cooldown reduction, and mobility boosts that can turn the tide of engagements.

Pull the farm to your side to negate the enemy:

Pull the farm to your side to negate the enemy. By drawing wild Pokémon toward your side of the map, you can safely secure experience while denying the enemy access. This tactic reduces their farm opportunities and helps maintain lane control, giving your team a steady advantage.

common farming mistakes

Common Farming Mistakes

Ignoring farm for pointless fights:

Avoid ignoring farm for pointless fights. It’s tempting to join every skirmish, but engaging in unnecessary battles wastes valuable time and experience. Prioritize farming to hit your power spikes and charge your Unite Move, this will make you more impactful in the important fights that actually decide the game.

Leaving lane EXP for no reason:

Don’t leave lane EXP unclaimed for no reason. Every wild Pokémon you miss means lost experience and a slower level progression. Unless you’re rotating for an objective or contesting high-value farm, make sure to clear your lane efficiently to keep your levels on track.

Taking jungler’s buffs without communication:

Avoid taking the jungler’s buffs without communication. Red and Blue Buffs are vital resources that help junglers maintain map control and impact teamfights. Always coordinate with your jungler before taking these buffs to prevent disrupting their farm path and to keep team synergy strong.

Overcommitting and dying before key spawns:

Avoid overcommitting and dying before key spawns. Losing players right before major objectives like Regieleki or Rayquaza can cost your team map control and valuable experience. Play smart, prioritize survival, and only commit when you have a clear advantage or support from your team. Staying alive ensures you’re ready to contest and capitalize on these crucial moments.

Wasting your cooldowns:

Don’t waste your cooldowns before contesting farm or key objectives. Save important abilities and crowd control to secure last hits on wild Pokémon or to outplay opponents during smite-style fights. Using your cooldowns too early can leave you vulnerable and reduce your chances of winning critical contests.
